Carmine Galasso, author and photographer of Crosses and Fr. Bob Hoatson, Founder and President of Road to Recovery at the launching of the book in Washington, DC in July.
In order to keep up-to-date, Road to Recovery has just purchased a Verizon Blackberry. Thanks to our donors who made it possible.
Bob Hoatson received the following letter from an abuse survivor who received some money from Road to Recovery:
"Dear Bob:
I wanted to thank you for the money. You don't know how much the money helps. We go from eating for a week and three weeks my son and I starve. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. It's a gift to be able to get up in the morning and eat."
The first study to examine brain activity patterns in severely traumatized children showed their brains function differently than those of healthy children, say researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. The study hints at the biological underpinnings of the disorder called PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder. It also provides a valuable benchmark with which to assess the effectiveness of potential therapies.
In other news, our founder/president, Father Bob Hoatson, is featured on the cover of recently-published book entitled "Crosses: Portraits of Clergy Abuse." It was photographed and produced by Carmine Galasso, an award-winning photo-journalist who has worked for the Bergen Record of Hackensack, New Jersey, for many years. Award-winning reporter Mike Kelly collaborated on the project, which highlights the stories and photographs of thirty American survivors of clergy abuse. The book is scheduled for wide release in September, 2007. Details will be contained on this website.
Big News: Road to Recovery celebrates the launching of its new website, designed to be user-friendly and accessible to survivors and supporters. The website you have accessed is meant to connect you with resources and information that will help survivors recover from the ravages of sexual abuse by clergy. It is also meant to provide information to interested parties and those who wish to support us financially. Presidential candidate Barak Obama has raised millions of dollars by appealing to the "ordinary" American donor, the ten and twenty dollar gift!
